Inventory of tomographic models
|
|
| |
This inventory provides large-scale tomographic models of Earth structure in 2 standardized formats.
The first one expresses model in spherical harmonic expansion, and the coefficients are presented as stated in Becker, T. W. and L. Boschi: A comparison of tomographic and geodynamic
mantle models, Geochem. Geophys. Geosyst., 3, 2001GC000168, 2002. Visualization can be done using
the shansyn software package (works on UNIX, requires Generic Mapping Tools, all open source).
Tomographic models can also be expressed by the values of Vp, Vs or other physical quantities on a 3D grid; thus, we are providing these values too, in json format. JSON is a general purpose semantic format, easy to parse in any programming environment, or even directly within the web browser (example).
Please see the JsonEuroRem format specification.
This database will serve as a repository for the collection of
literature and new models relevant in the derivation of a common
reference for the mantle and crustal structure beneath Europe.
This is an ongoing effort in collaboration with SPICE (EC-FP6 Marie Curie Research and Traning Network). Other relevant material can be found on the SPICE Planetary-scale Tomography web page.
