THE NEAR REAL TIME SATELLITE DATA EXTENSION
WORKPACKAGE 3000

The work package 3 consists in the acquisition and the processing of satellite data (altimeter, SST and winds fields).

As part of the MFS Pilot Project (MFSPP) a near real time system of altimetry and SST was implemented. For MFSTEP, the work mainly consists in the improvement of the altimeter and SST system and in the extension of the system to the satellite winds data.

 

 

The main objectives are :

 

1)       Improve the NRT altimeter system

·         Add new altimeter and quantify their accuracy

·         Improvement of the processing and merging

·         Calculation of a mean dynamic topography

·         NRT processing and analysis of altimeter data before, during and after the TOP (link to the CLS ftp server )

·         Improvement of the cloud detection

·         Development of daily products

·         Impact of MSG satellite

·         Impact of MSG satellite

·         NRT processing before, during and after the TOP (link to the IFA ftp server)

 

3)       Analyse the contribution of scatterometry to derive high resolution winds fields

·         Compilation of the different satellite data sets

·         Validation of the wavenumber content of ECMWF winds fields (Data Access)

·         Definition/test of a methodology to combine the satellite wind fields with the ECMWF

·         Production of the gridded fields for TOP period (link to the IFREMER ftp server)
